Happy 41st...Surprise!!

I have the honor of having parents who have been married for 41 years...and actually still like each other...maybe even more now then 41 years ago...maybe.

For the last couple of years they have always gone down to Disney to celebrate their anniversary and do all the "grown-up" parts of Disney.

In order to out-do himself this year, my dad arranged for me and my sibblings to fly in and surprise my mom for dinner at the 5-star Victoria & Alberts restaurant in the Grand Floridian hotel/resort on Disney.

We started planning this back in August. Between then and October...is a long time for 4 kids keep a secret from their mom! But somehow we managed!! The 4 of us met up in Disney, and headed on over to the restaurant. We were supposed to beat mom & dad there but that didn't happen.

We pulled off the surprise like nothing I've ever been part of. My mom was speechless...and if you know my mom you know that's HUGE! :O) The main host-guy matre-dee (i have no idea how to spell that)...was in on the whole thing to so he totally gave my mom a line to throw her off and then snuck us in the back!! It was awesome.

We didn't just have dinner with them...we dined at the chef's table in the kitchen and interacted with the chefs all night. It was about 10 course of amazing food...most of which had their own wine pairing....after about 5 courses I was loopy...as were all of us! The time was priceless. It was an honor to celebrate with my parents!

Horsin' around

Tyler on Zoey

Amber on Zoey

Camryn on "Big-Un"..with Randy

Me on Zoey...wow it's been a long time!

Amber determined to help get the horses ready.

Eric on Big-Un...after Zoey bucked him off.

Tyler on Zoey...he's a natural cowboy

Under the trampoline was really the only shade.

Tyler...not sure what he's thinking.

uh...2 horses?

Dad & Tyler on the 4-wheeler...this was Tyler's favorite too!

Thankfully someone else had a camera!!...and shared their pictures!

We had the most fun at this house this summer. It belongs to Amber's sign interpreter from last school year, Melanie. She and her husband, Randy, hosted us all afternoon/evening and we had more fun than we have had in a LONG time. It was a blast!! The pictures don't come close to showing the immense amount of joy and fun that was being had!
horses, dogs, 4-wheelers, bonfire, roasted hotdogs, s'mores, trampoline, beautiful weather. It was all fun. My favorite was learning to drive the 4-wheelers...I had never even ridden one before...it was blast! We can't wait to go back!

1st time obedience

This is a phrase that I always try to remember with my children...and I am frequently reminded of when it's not happening!

I witnessed NONE of this at the McDonald's playground today. I'm not perfect, I'm not trying to pretend I am. Not even close. But...don't you ever watch a mom and think, "Hmmm...do you want me to tell you why you're so frustrated? Because your kid is calling the shots!!"

One kid was accused of choking another kid and denied it...but later was in trouble for another act of aggression. When it was brought to his mom's attention by grandma, mom said, "oh no, he wasn't even over there"....uh...yea he was! And this kids younger brother was pushing a baby in the face with his foot. The mom just sat there from a distance yelling "No no...we don't do that with babies". Then once grandpa got up to address the boy the mom did too...but he kept playing...no action was taken more than "no no."

Another mom spent 15 minutes chasing a kid around saying, "no, we are going". "no, we are going". "no...yes, jump jump...let's go." She had been IN the playground for 10 minutes trying to get her boy to come down....then followed him around the tables as he walked around. Never once taking control of the situation.

Then I actually heard one mom say, "No...time out right now. I told you once and you didn't listen, so now it's a time out." I though...yea mom...do it!

Then I saw the kid kind of dig in her heals...the mom rolled her eyes and let go and went back to her table as the kid kept playing.

When I told Tyler "2 minutes"...then "One minute"...then "get your shoes on, time to go."....I never repeated myself and we were out.

I know this is my own soapbox and I know every situation is different with each parent and kiddo, but good grief!!! Today was a bit overboard on the non-disciplining theatrics.

Please don't take offense to my rant...I'm just ranting...
