Croc warning

Have you ever heard of croc-style shoes and escalators? I very briefly remember something about it a number of years ago, but only ever heard about it the one time and never thought about it again. Well - there's a new rule in our house..."No wearing these when we are going anywhere with escalators!"

This is what was ripped off of Tyler's foot today on the escalator!! It wasn't at the "on" or "off" part - he was just standing there. He was facing the side rail, hands on the rail...he wasn't goofing off or climbing up the side...his foot was evidentally too close to the side and it got sucked under!! See all the grease on it?
The crazy thing is that on Sunday, the heel strap on this shoe broke off...I can only imagine how much worse it would have been if that strap and hadn't broken 2 days ago.
Freaked me out - freaked Tyler out really bad - freaked the store ladies out too. Thankfully Tyler wasn't hurt at all, just scared.
So - if your kids wear these alot - be SUPER careful on the escalators.

latest with School

Ok - so thank you so much for your prayers. We've continued to sort through all the information and follow-up conversations that we've had over the last week - that's why I haven't posted sooner.

The meeting was ok - but very contradictory to what we'd been hearing. The one thing that we are certain of is that there is a LOT of miscommunication in this school. People say one thing, interpret another way, then say "I didn't say that." It's VERY frustrating for us to sort through and figure out who is being truthful....so instead of trying to fight the communication battle between other people - we are focusing on Amber. I think, finally, we have her in a schedule that will get her what she needs.

We have an IEP in place for her to be in a self-contained classroom. We agreed to let her try going to a mainstream classroom for a couple of things each day...like their calendar time and their "special" (art, pe, music etc...). That was working well until someone (again - here's the debate on WHO actually made this decision) said, "Let's mainstream her as much as possible since we have an interpreter for her."

The problem with that is she doesn't know how to use an interpreter and actually retain the information. Plus - the bigger problem is that NO ONE asked Eric and I if it was ok. This is when things really got messed up...when they started making decisions for Amber without us!

CRAZY. Anyway - it's been a long, emotional process that should have never even happened. But it did and we are wiser for it. We now know what exactly we need to ask for next year at her IEP. It's taken a lot of back & forth to get some kind of a balance and I think we've accomplished that.

Thanks again for your prayers!!

Prayers please

If you happen to read this by 1pm eastern time - please keep Eric & I in your prayers. We have a big meeting with the principal of Amber's school who seems to want to make decisions without us.

Caterpillar Cuddles

It was a good reminder to me.

Caterpillars are our life right now because they are all over...it is not hard to find at least 3 each afternoon in our backyard.

But heaven forbid one get lost down the cracks of the warping deck or perish in the lovingly squeezed hands of a child.

Today - it was Camryn's "cattie" (as she has named them) that got lost in the tall spring blades of grass. She was sobbing hysterically.

I started to explain to her that it was fine, there'd be more tomorrow...and probably tonight - it's not a big deal...yaddie yaddie ya....

But then I realized that to her...this was very sad. And who am I to judge the sad heart of a child?! (Other than the mother who doesn't get excited about the "catties" and makes them stay outside.)

So I sat down and cuddled with her for what seemed like forever (mainly because it was about a caterpillar), but was maybe 5 minutes. And the whole time I rocked and she sobbed, I just thought, "Caterpillar cuddles....and it makes it all ok...for all parties included."

Eric's Shoes

I just want to preface this by stating that I told Eric I was going to post about this because I got such a good laugh out of it!!

On Saturday Eric had to go into work because things are crazy. As he was getting ready to leave he said, "I really need to pick up this house." So of course I was offended...even though he wasn't trying to be critical...I'm a girl and take offense to lots of things! :O)

So while he was at work I cleaned, and cleaned and cleaned. ...accomplishing a pick up of the master bedroom and cleaning bathrooms...along with taking care of the kids. I feel I should have gotten more done than I did - but it was a start.

Anyway - this morning, he's trying to get ready for work and he says, "Stacy, have you seen my black shoes?"

So I walk into the closet and get them and hand them to him. He said, "Where were they?" I said, "In the closet."

(This is my favorite part)
He looked surprised and confused and said, "How did they get there? I didn't put them away!"

I busted out laughing and said, "I KNOW!!! I DID!!"

It's still making me laugh just thinking about it again!

Standing in the Sun

This morning as I'm hurriedly (is that spelled right?) getting the kids in the car to go to school, Camryn wanders into the middle of the yard. I emphatically say, "Camryn, GET IT! We'll be late."

She turns to me and smiles and says, "Every morning before I get in the car, I need to go stand in the sun."

I smiled in amazement because this is what I heard..."Every morning before I get in the car, I need to go stand in the "Son".

Why are breakfasts so hard? They just don't want to eat...it's like pulling teeth. School days are hard because we are on a time-restraint. If they could wait until 10 am everyday..it wouldn't be a problem.

What do you feed your kids for breakfast? Cereal just doesn't cut it here....

Happy Easter

We have had a very blessed Easter so far. Great church service, wonderful country club brunch and egg hunt with Eric's cousin & her family. Here are a few pics.
Remember - our greatest need is forgiveness...and it's been taken care of.

A new leaf...

I let Amber help me fold some laundry today...just some of her panties...but I didn't refold them!!! Can you believe it! That wasn't easy for me...But then I realized that that was like 6 pairs I didn't have to fold...plus she wanted to help put it all away...

...I really need to use this child-labor stuff more!! :O)

Spring Break

With Eric and Tyler in Cincinnati this week, it's just the girls and I...and I'm really enjoying it.
At first I was pretty bummed that it didn't work out for me to go with Eric to his grandma's funeral, but since he took Tyler, that left just us girls. And since I usually have so much time with Tyler...it's so nice to have some girl time.

Yesterday we went to the library...called ImaginOn....it's 1/2 library, 1/2 children's theatre, so it's A LOT of fun...lot of pretend play and dress up and computers and all sorts of stuff.

We spent most of the time doing computer painting and then playing house. They had this big house structure and I sat in a chair and was "waited-on" hand and foot. The girls cooked for me, cleaned for me, brought me endless amounts of fruits and vegetables and coffee...even a piece or two of chocolate. I had hats and blankets (made from play clothes)...there was a doilie that was often used for my bib. I even had a pet cat for awhile.

It was the first time in a long time I just sat and played for SO long with the girls and they loved it and so did I!
Tyler's comment, moments before this picture: "OH NO!!! I'm completely thirsty!!"
Mommy & girls at the library
My library "pampering"
The girls playing house:

Amber & Camryn
Camryn just ate a blue malted egg!
It's fuzzy because it's from my phone - but this the suit I bought for Tyler to wear to the funeral...is he not the most handsome little boy!!!??

All hooked up

I went today and got my 30 day heart monitor. They are trying to catch a possible irregular heartbeat that might there. We'll see. I get to unhook for showers but that's it. I call and download whenever I need to and the person will tell me "A-ok" or "uhhh...do that again". I guess I can't wear a pretty strappy dress for Easter...hmmmm....thinking...thinking....
